Maintenance Testimony — Employee 311

The statement below was taken from the station's night cleaner, identified in this record by employee number and shift only. He found the scene. He cleaned it before the official record was made. His fragments are reproduced as given.

“I come on at ten. I know that floor. Whatever happened there happened before my shift, and nobody told me anything, which is normal. Nobody tells the cleaner anything.”

“It wasn't a mess like you'd think. It was more like — things had been moved and put back careful. Except the floor. The floor I could see. So I did the floor.”

“The service door was wedged from the inside. With the good chair. In six years that door has never been shut, and now it's shut with a chair against it, and the chair still warm. I wrote that in the book. It's not in their version.”

“I mopped it before anyone from days came in. By morning it looked like nothing had ever been there. That's the job. I'm not proud and I'm not ashamed. But I remember what was there before I cleaned it, and their paper says there was nothing.”

“Nobody asked me for this. I'm giving it because nobody asked me.”
